Veganuary: The Vegan Kind Box January 2015 (#TVK15)

So it's currently Day 10 of my Veganuary Challenge (find out more here) and I'm still going strong and absolutely loving it! When I got home from work last night I found this huge box of vegan treats waiting for me and it was just what I needed after a long week!

The Vegan Kind (link here!) is a monthly subscription service that offers a host of vegan goodies for the sum of £10 (+p&p) and I thought this would be a great way to spur myself on throughout Veganuary! Not only do you receive delicious foodie treats but also household and other lifestyle products.

January's box includes 6 vegan/cruelty free/environmentally aware products, a laminated recipe card and a letter advising that 10p from every box will go to charity or a worthy campaign.  Wouldn't you guess it? This month's charity is Veganuary!!! It was clearly meant to be!

So let's get down to the nitty gritty and talk about the products:

Hectares Sweet Potato Crisps (Sea Salt & Black Pepper) 35g RRP £1.

Ahhh crisps, one of my many vices.  These, however, are packed with anti-oxidants, beta-carotene and vitamins - making them far less naughty than my usual choices!  These will be great for a cosy film night at home and much better for me.

Power of Brown Superfoods Cereal Pot (Cacao Maca) 65g RRP £2.29.

I was super excited when I saw this little pot, as I've tried similar things in the past.  All the ones I had in my cupboard have milk powder in them so aren't suitable for me now.  This one is made from 50% superfoods and 50% gluten free organic oats and is flavoured with cacao and maca (which I love),  Breakfast tomorrow = sorted.

Greenfrog Soap Nuts 250g RRP £3.99

I had no idea what these were when I initially opened the box, but it seems that you can use them to wash clothes! They are actually Himalayan nuts which are a sustainable and eco-friendly way to do your laundry.  You just put 6-8 half shells into the little pouch provided (plus a few drops of essential oil if you want a nice scent), stick them in the wash and voila! Clean clothes! My boyfriend might give me a few funny looks, but you can use the same shells for 2/3 washes so they are definitely more economical than our usual brand!

Pulsin Raspberry & Goji Raw Choc Brownie 50g RRP £1.79

This is probably the item I am most looking forward to devouring.  I think bars like this are great to take to work and stave off those 3pm cravings for something sweet.  One of my favourite combinations is chocolate and raspberry; plus this bar is full of vitamin c, protein & iron!

Clearspring 100% Organic Fruit-on-the-Go (Pear) 100g RRP 89p

This is a squeezy pouch of pear puree and 1 of your 5 a day.  No chemical nasties involved! Apparently all the fruit has been picked at the peak of it's ripeness to make it extra tasty and nourishing.  I'm not normally a fan of pears (but to be fair I haven't tried one for years!) although this does sound really nice, so I'll give it a go and report back!

Creative Nature Tropical Treat Bar 38g RRP 99p

I'm really glad I received 2 bars in this box as I do tend to go through a fair few whilst at work.  This one from Creative Nature is actually a 'detox bar' which contains ginger, coconut and pineapple.  It's also cold pressed which locks in all the nutrients and makes it better for you! Yum!

I am so impressed with The Vegan Kind box! I love that I now have some extra goodies to test out that I might not have been able to get my hands on, and there's definitely some that I never would have thought to buy!

Do you subscribe? What do you think of the box? Also if anyone has got any great vegan website links/recipes that they love - please get in touch as I am still a newbie and any help/recommendations would be much appreciated!!!

2015 Resolutions

New Year's Day is one of my favourite days of the year.  There's something about the promise of a fresh start, like a new diary/notebook, that fills me with excitement and eagerness to start doing and thinking! I like having goals and a plan (even if I don't always stick to them 100%) and I've decided to share my 2015 Resolutions this year!

1. Say Yes!  - I need to be more adventurous in general and less hesitant to make decisions, so my first goal is to try and limit the amount of times I say 'no' to things and take a few more chances.

2.  Be Kind! - Not only to the people around me but to myself, the environment and make a difference in any way that I can.

3.  Exercise! - I have never been a 'sporty' person, as anyone who went to school with me can attest, but I did have horses when I was younger and I really miss horse-riding so this goal is about not being scared to literally get back on the horse! I also want to walk more and maybe take up running to increase my energy levels and overall health.

4.  Travel! - I didn't leave the UK in 2014 so my goal this year is to go abroad to somewhere completely new at least twice and have some new experiences.

5.  Try Vegan! - I have always wanted to give this a go, for many reasons.  So I am taking part in Veganuary (see website here) and giving plant-based eating a try,

6.  Be Proactive! - I want to stop procrastinating about EVERYTHING and just 'do' more. Including coming up with some really great content for this website & learning new skills! (I really need to learn how to cook!!!),

I would love it if you would share your goals with me in the comments!

Have a wonderful 2015 everyone, thank you as ever for all your kindness and support.

Love Kat xxx

Review: The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion

Oily skin? Acne scars? Under the skin lurkers?  I answer yes to all three questions, as I'm sure a lot of other women do too! I have tried a LOT of products that claim to help get rid of scars/blemishes and unfortunately most of them tend to aggravate my skin (I'm looking at you Effaclar Duo!).  However recently I had a 50% off code for The Body Shop and spotted this Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion (£9). Previously I have gotten on well with Body Shop skincare so I thought I'd give it a try.

The consistency of the product is more like a gel-creme which is fairly light, feels silky on the skin and sinks in quickly.  The scent is obviously tea-tree but with a more herbal kick, which I really love!  If you don't like strong herbal scents then this might be a problem, but I actually find it helps me get to sleep more easily!  It feels very gentle on the skin, not stripping or stingy like a lot of tea-tree products can sometimes feel.

I tend to apply this to my skin in the evening after my serum (which currently is a rehydrating one) and then spritz my face with a facial mist.  I have very oily skin, so after these steps I don't feel the need to add any more moisturiser to my face. If you are on the drier side, you might want to layer some of your regular moisturiser on top.

I've been using this lotion for a couple of weeks now and have only had one small blemish on my chin since I began.  I have also noticed some of my scarring fading slightly, but it's not hugely noticable at this stage.  I am hoping with continued use this will improve more and ward off any future blemishes!

I'm really pleased I bought this product!  Have you tried it? What are your top blemish fighting products?
